Well Being Newsletter

July 2007
Vol. 2 No. 7

WELCOME

A central part of the spiritual component of my spiritual wellness is prayer and meditation. These practices have sustained my soul and spirit. As mid-summer is upon us, I find myself wanting to share these feelings through a prayer I’ve written especially for you. You’ll find it in the short article included in this month’s newsletter.

SPIRITUAL WELLNESS

Let us more and more insist on raising funds of love, of kindness, of understanding, of peace. The rest will be given.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Spiritual wellness involves our perception of meaning and purpose in life. It relates to how we integrate our actions with our beliefs and values. Spiritual wellness considers our faith journey and how we live in relation to harmony, compassion and peace. No matter where you may be on your journey, there are avenues that can lead to a greater understanding of your life’s purpose. For some people, spiritual wellness includes prayer, meditation, walks in nature or attendance at religious services. Whatever your spiritual beliefs include, I trust you will enjoy the following sentiments.

A Prayer for You
by Susan Tate

May you see the infinite possibilities that exist with each sunrise.
May you make wise choices that nourish your mind, body and spirit.
May you allow your soul the freedom to express who you really are.
May you allow yourself to love greatly and be greatly loved.
May you know that good self-care ultimately supports all those around you.
May you discover peace-filled solutions in the opportunities of conflict.
May you allow yourself time to grieve.
May you use your gifts and talents to create a better world.
May you listen to others with ears of compassion.
May you forgive yourself and others for any behaviors or beliefs that have caused pain.
May you feel God’s presence in every cell of your body.
May you be filled with gratitude for your daily blessings.
And so it is.

WEDDING OFFICIANT

Does your spiritual wellness involve an upcoming wedding or commitment ceremony? Please consider me if you are seeking a non-denominational but spiritual officiant. In the weddings I have had the honor of facilitating, I’ve held a sacred space for couples to create a ritual that celebrates their love, commitment and spiritual beliefs. If this calls to you, please contact me for more information: susan@wawellness.com or (425) 238-2885.

LOSE THE CRAVINGS

If you crave carbohydrates or sugar, you are not alone. When we consume high-glycemic foods, it causes an over stimulation of the release of insulin. The more we eat, the more we crave. Medical studies show that over 85% of the carbohydrates we consume in the Western world are foods that have a high-glycemic value. If you love bagels, breads, crackers, pasta, potatoes, rice and sugar—did I say, you are not alone? Fortunately, there is a way to reset the body at a cellular level to break the cycle.

I eat a good variety of wholesome foods, but for the last five years I have over-used chocolate to sooth my soul. My chocolate habit was clearly associated with the sweetness missing after experiencing a very painful divorce. I still lovechocolate, but I no longer need to eat it daily or in the amounts I was consuming. I finally realized that as high as my blood sugar spiked, it fell to a matching low and it did not fit in with my overall level of health and fitness. I was eating well, doing Nia several times week, enjoying a great spiritual practice and was still chasing down many meals with my favorite chocolate! It also kept me feeling constantly hungry.

Several months ago, I discovered a program that has successfully reduced my craving for high-glycemic foods. This clinically tested 5-day behavior modification program, recommended by Christiane Northrup, MD, has totally reset my metabolism. It’s been four months now and I am sustaining its benefits. It is also proving to be successful in jumpstarting healthier eating habits in my clients. Please email me at susan@wawellness.com if you would like to know more.
