Well Being Newsletter

January 2007
Vol. 2 No. 1

WELCOME

The New Year is always such an inspiring time to create a fresh and rejuvenating change or direction in our lives. This January article, Create a Monthly Focus, supports the idea of creating a fresh focus for each month.

If you live in the Seattle area, please check out my new Gentle, Healing Nia classes on Saturday mornings. (See info below.)

I'm also excited to share my nourishing work at a Saturday workshop on March 10 at Bastyr University. For more information about the Nourishing Body, Mind, Spirit & Emotions: A Holistic Approach to Wellness see the Upcoming Workshops section below.

Wishing you a year filled with love, wholeness, prosperity and peace,

Susan Tate

CREATE A MONTHLY FOCUS

It is customary to set new intentions or state "New Year's resolutions" during this time of the year.  It's a time to use the flip of the calendar to set a broader vision for greater enjoyment of your life.  Each month you have an opportunity to key in on one part of that vision by designating a monthly theme—a specific focus for creating and enhancing your personal wellness path.  For example, your theme for January could be movement (what some people call "exercise").  February could be self-love.  March could be optimism.  April could be financial freedom, and so on. You could write your monthly theme on a piece of paper and place it on your refrigerator or in your bathroom.  Writing your theme and keeping it in a place where you can see it helps you to gather all your resources and sets the intention to move toward focusing on that goal.

I suggest keeping the theme or focus simple.  If your theme is movement, you can choose the movement activity you want to add or expand into your weekly activities.  But you can also take time to focus on how you walk, how you move into or out of a room, how you move your body when you drive or how you get into bed.  Mindful movements bring you into the present moment and that's an extra gift.

If your focus is on love, you can notice how filled up you feel when you give love in obvious ways or gentle, subtle ways too.  If your focus is water, you may be choosing to drink more filtered water but you can also notice things like the feel of running water, the temperature and feel of your shower or bath, the rain, any rivers, streams or water sources around you.  You can do all this just by placing your attention on water.  This way, choosing to drink more water takes on an element of creativity and enjoyment that is something you want to do, not something that you are forcing yourself to do.

Enjoy the rejuvenation that often comes with the start of a new year each time a new month begins. It's a wonderful way to deepen your sense of well-being.  And that's what this newsletter is all about—you being a WELL BEING.

What would you like to focus on this month? My focus for January is ORDER—so I'm off to sort, delete and organize files!  Happy New Year!
